EGYPT UNVEILS WORLD’S LARGEST MUSEUM CELEBRATING A SINGLE CIVILIZATION

CAIRO, EGYPT — In a defining moment for global culture, heritage, and tourism, Egypt has officially opened the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), now recognized as the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.
A MONUMENTAL CELEBRATION OF HISTORY
Located beside the timeless Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum stretches across nearly half a million square metres, making it one of the most ambitious cultural projects ever undertaken.
Inside, more than 100,000 ancient artefacts tell the story of Egypt’s enduring legacy. Among them is the complete tomb collection of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, an extraordinary 5,992-piece treasure that includes his famous golden mask and royal coffins. During the grand opening, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi hailed the museum as a gift from Egypt to the world and a symbol of national pride.
“The Egyptian people were and still are builders of civilisations, creators of glory, and messengers of peace,” he declared to a jubilant audience of dignitaries, historians, and cultural leaders.
The museum’s architecture itself reflects that message, serving as a modern masterpiece designed to bridge Egypt’s ancient past with its modern aspirations.

Officials believe the Grand Egyptian Museum will redefine cultural tourism in Africa and the Middle East. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the opening will “completely change the map of cultural tourism in Egypt.”
Ahmed Ghoneim, the museum’s Chief Executive Officer, added,
“This museum is not only a display of what Egypt has but also a reflection of how we tell our story to the world.”
The museum is expected to attract millions of visitors annually, serving as both a world-class tourist destination and an educational hub for scholars and students of ancient history.
