Uganda Airlines is set to make history once again with the launch of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and London Gatwick, starting May 18, 2025. This long-awaited route will cut travel time from 16 hours to just 9 hours, marking a significant milestone in strengthening trade, tourism, education, and broader economic ties between Uganda and the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made by Uganda Airlines CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki, who highlighted the importance of this achievement in the airline’s growth journey:

“The Crane will be flapping its wings into the United Kingdom, and this means greater connectivity and opportunities for Uganda.”

This move makes London the airline’s third international destination outside Africa after Dubai and Mumbai, expanding Uganda Airlines’ global reach to 17 destinations. The direct flight also comes with competitive fares starting at $733, making it a more accessible option for travelers.

Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala, welcomed the development, emphasizing its impact on Uganda’s global presence and long-term economic growth:

“This route will not only boost tourism and trade but will also connect Uganda to numerous global opportunities.”

According to Uganda Airlines’ Chief Commercial Director, Adedayo Olawuyi, the new connection is set to enhance trade links, attract tourists, and create a smoother path for students and professionals seeking opportunities abroad.

The airline is also preparing for future expansion, with plans to increase its fleet and launch flights to other global hubs such as China.

For a national carrier that once faced turbulent times, this latest development signals a new dawn. Uganda Airlines is not just flying — it’s soaring, bringing the country closer to the world and paving the way for greater economic growth and connectivity.
