DEL MONTE KENYA GOES GREEN: ELECTRIC BUSES TO REVOLUTIONIZE EMPLOYEE TRANSPORTATION

In a bold move towards sustainability, Del Monte Kenya has announced the transition of its employee transportation services to a fully electric bus fleet. This strategic initiative underscores the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Del Monte Kenya Managing Director Wayne Cook emphasized that the shift to electric vehicles aligns with the company’s broader environmental goals.

“Sustainability and innovation are at the core of our operations. Transitioning from conventional staff transportation to electric vehicles was an easy decision,” Cook stated. “This move reaffirms our commitment to the green revolution and supports Kenya’s national goal of decarbonizing the transport sector. Our vision is to contribute to cleaner, healthier, and safer environments for present and future generations.”

Del Monte Kenya, a leading producer, marketer, and distributor of pineapples, transports approximately 6,000 staff daily using its bus fleet.

Phased Implementation in Partnership with Metrotrans

In collaboration with Metrotrans Investment, Del Monte Kenya has been implementing a phased transition to electric buses. Over the past three months, two diesel-powered buses have already been replaced with electric vehicles, with remarkable success.

Metrotrans Investments CEO Oscar Rosana praised Del Monte Kenya’s forward-thinking approach, highlighting the significant environmental and economic benefits of electric mobility.

“We are excited to partner with Del Monte Kenya in this transformative journey towards sustainability. The adoption of electric mobility not only reduces carbon emissions but also contributes to cleaner air, economic growth, and job creation,” Rosana said. “With the full transition of the entire fleet, we anticipate substantial long-term benefits from this EV revolution.”

Building Infrastructure for a Sustainable Future

To enhance the efficiency of its electric fleet, Del Monte Kenya is exploring the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Discussions are ongoing to develop charging stations that will facilitate seamless operations and optimize the benefits of the electric transition.

By championing green mobility solutions, Del Monte Kenya and Metrotrans Investment are not only setting a precedent in Kenya’s transport sector but also contributing to the broader global shift towards sustainable transportation. As electric vehicle adoption gains momentum, such initiatives are paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
